RED DIRT

The red dirt stained my heart.

The dirt clinged to my very being each day we dug in it.
From toes to fingers, jeans & socks, face to face the dirt changed my heart.

The smell of the air. The haze of the sky. The glare of the sun.
The waves and smiles with shouts of “Muzungu” made each day grab more & more of me.

I came from the dust of the ground I came from dust that is full of hope, joy and desire to see hearts stained with life.

The red dirt of Uganda did such a thing in me.
